WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A fire in the North Cascades continues to grow as dry conditions continue to persist in the region.

The National Parks Service says that the Perry Fire has now burned over 1,300 acres on the west side of Ross Lake.

Crews have been working to tamp down the flames and protect structures within the Little Beaver and Silver Creek campgrounds.

Smoke from the Perry Fire is adding to air quality woes within the Pacific Northwest.

Many areas within Whatcom County are reporting either fair or moderate air quality, but conditions worsen on the eastern side of the county.

An air station near the Mount Baker Ski Area has been reporting unhealthy air pollution in that area since 2 a.m. this morning.

Northwest winds could push even more pollutants towards Maple Falls and Everson throughout Friday.
