BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Wildfire danger is on the horizon for eastern Whatcom County. The National Weather Service says a Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Cascades until 11 p.m. on July 17.

Forecasted lightning in hot, dry conditions has the potential to start multiple wildfires in rural or mountain areas. Strong winds could further fuel the flames if a wildfire were sparked.

National Park Service officials issued campfire ban for North Cascades National Park earlier this month.

Currently, a stage 1 burn ban remains in effect for unincorporated Whatcom County.
