BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Contamination cleanup is complete for a portion of Bellingham Bay.
The Port of Bellingham says that crews from the Washington State Department of Ecology have finished clearing toxic heavy metals from the upland area of the Harris Avenue Shipyard.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that the Harris Avenue upland site was one of five cleanup areas scheduled to be completed in 2026.
The in-water portion of the shipyard is on track to have their cleaning process begin sometime next year.
Ecology officials will open a public comment period for the in-water cleanup plan in the near future.
