BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Electric Avenue bridge near Bloedel Donovan Park is now closed and will be for nearly two weeks.

The City of Bellingham has announced that temporary repairs will cause the bridge to close from Sept. 9 through Sept. 20. The city adds crews are making repairs that will reinforce the bridge’s structure and make it safer for pedestrians and vehicles as well as allow both travel lanes to reopen.

A signed detour is in place. Bike and pedestrian access will be limited during construction hours.

The city is still working to find a permanent solution after a routine inspection in June found critical structural issues with the bridge. It’s currently working to secure funding for a multi-year process to design and construct a new bridge.
