BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Electric Avenue bridge will be closed for nearly two weeks next month.
The City of Bellingham has announced that temporary repairs will cause the bridge to close from Sept. 9 through Sept. 20.
The city says the needed repairs will reinforce the bridge’s structure to make it safer for pedestrians and vehicles as well as allow both travel lanes to reopen.
A signed detour will be in place on Electric Avenue. Bike and pedestrian access will be limited during construction hours.
The city is still working to find a permanent solution after a routine inspection in June found critical structural issues with the bridge. It’s currently working to secure funding for a multi-year process to design and construct a new bridge.
