EVERSON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A major road near Everson has reopened ahead of another looming closure.

Whatcom County Public Works says emergency repairs on Everson-Goshen Road have been completed ahead of schedule.

The road was expected to be closed north of E. Smith Road through Friday, April 10, but it reopened on Tuesday, April 7.

Crews placed roughly 165 tons of rock to stabilize the road shoulder.

It comes as SR 544 is scheduled to close between Everson Bridge and Everson Elementary School starting next Wednesday, April 15. That will not reopen until mid-July as crews install new sidewalks.

Until then, traffic heading into town will need to use Robinson St and Everson Rd in order to get to downtown Everson.
