FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Ferndale man is set to be charged with multiple felonies after shooting himself in the buttocks.
Kent Police say the man visited a gas station on Sunday afternoon, carrying a gun in his waistband. A clerk told officers that the gun fell out of the man’s pants, and he quickly stuffed the gun back into his pants while gathering items to purchase.
The clerk says that the man then suddenly fell to the floor before hobbling out of the store and into a waiting car driven by a woman. Police say the 43-year-old man eventually showed up at an Auburn hospital with the gunshot wound.
Investigators found out that the man has prior felony convictions including a domestic violence no-contact order that prevents him from even owning a gun. The gun was also stolen according to officers.
Police are waiting to arrest the man until he is released from the hospital, when he will face three felony charges against him.
The Kent Police Department issued the following advisory statement via Facebook:
“We couldn’t book the suspect into jail due to his surgery, but he is facing 3 felony charges when he is able leave the hospital. We won’t necessarily ‘tail’ him or lurk ‘behind’ him in the shadows. We know he won’t be able to hop a ‘caboose’ under a full ‘moon’ anytime soon, so we will be patient, bide our time, and get his ‘heinie’ in front of a judge when he is properly healed. Consider this story a gentle reminder to keep guns in holsters, (or a ‘fanny’ pack) and if you do accidently shoot yourself, please just sit and wait for help to arrive. Your wound will just get worse if you delay.”
