WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Filing week has come to a close in Whatcom County, and some key races will be seeing some primary action this year.
In county council races, Todd Donovan is not seeking reelection.
Three candidates have emerged to fight for his District 2 seat: Elizabeth Boyle, Maya Morales and Mike Cullum.
Boyle is a former business owner and organizational consultant that has done work locally on subjects such as the opioid crisis and community health.
Morales currently serves on the Charter Review Commission and Cullum is currently serving as principal at Mary Purcell Elementary School in Sedro-Woolley and on the Civil Service Commission.
Tyler Byrd’s District 3 will have four people fighting to secure a spot in the general election, including incumbent Byrd, Kyle Christensen, Daniel Probst and Jessica Reinstra.
Reinstra is a nurse practitioner, Probst is a trailrunning race director and Christensen has served a variety of roles in rural Whatcom County including as Sumas’ former mayor.
Sumas’ City Council will have a race for their Position 2 seat.
And Bellingham Port Commission’s Ken Bell will receive some primary heat with two candidates coming for his long-time seat.
Carly James, co-owner of Bison Bookbinding & Letterpress, and Kaylin A. Bosley of Tulalip both filed as candidates.
Incumbent Richard Postma is facing Brett Egbert, a math educator, and David Daniels, a truck driver for Cowden Gravel.
Numerous other races throughout the county will see no contention during the primaries as candidates are running either unopposed or face only one candidate.
