SEATTLE, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) The first Boeing 737 MAX 9 took flight from SeaTac around 3:30 p.m. Friday, heading to San Diego after passing final inspections.
KIRO reports many of the passengers on the Alaskan Airlines flight were not aware that the plane was a 737 MAX 9. A few said it was fine but expressed trepidation on using the plane.
Earlier this month, the door plugs on an Alaska Airlines flight using a 737 MAX 9 blew off shortly after take-off. The resulting hole caused the plane to lose pressure and ripped phones out of passengers’ hands, even pulling a child’s shirt off. All Boeing 737 MAX 9s were grounded as a result and Alaska says that this is one of the first planes to pass the final inspections.
The airline company expects inspections to be completed by next week, with a full flight schedule starting up again soon after.
