WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A recent international traveler from Whatcom County is recovering after being diagnosed with a rare illness.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services (WCHCS) says that the adult was diagnosed with mumps after returning from a recent cruise. The person wasn’t hospitalized and is recovering at home.

WCHCS adds that there is no risk of contamination to the public. Whatcom County has not seen a confirmed a case of mumps since 2018.

This mumps case comes as a handful of measles cases have been reported across the state.

Health officials are urging people to stay up to date on their measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations to avoid further spread.
