SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Fish passage projects are coming to Skagit County next week.

WSDOT said that crews will begin the process of removing two culverts underneath Highway 9 starting Monday, June 29.

One of them is located just north of Sedro-Woolley, while the other is just east of Mount Vernon.

Drivers should expect a continuous lane reduction south of Kalloch Road for about a month and a half once the work kicks off.

Later in August, WSDOT will close both lanes of Highway 9 south of Mount Vernon Big Lake Road for a full week. A planned detour route around the site could add an extra 25 miles to some commutes.

Both culverts are scheduled to be fully replaced and operational by October.
