BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A huge seafood processing vessel that was under construction for over a year in Bellingham is finally complete.

Northline Seafoods announced that the Hannah left Bellingham’s Fairhaven Shipyard on Saturday, May 25 after more than three years of planning and construction.

The Hannah is a 400-foot barge-based processing platform that was made to host the buying, freezing, shipping, storing and distributing of wild Alaskan salmon.

Northline CEO Ben Blakey says the vessel will operate in Alaska during the summer months.

“We buy and freeze the product during the summer when the salmon runs are strong,” Blakey said. “Then at the conclusion of the salmon season, we haul our barge back to Bellingham where the fish will be cut, stored and distributed from our vessel throughout the year.”

The $60 million state-of-the-art vessel can hold up to 14 million pounds of frozen salmon.

Northline Seafoods partnered with the Port of Bellingham and more than 250 local vendors that contributed to the Hannah’s construction.
