TACOMA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A retail theft ring targeting a popular athletic wear chain with a location in Bellingham has led to at least five arrests.
Court documents from Pierce County state that the suspects – four women and an 11-year-old girl – all face organized retail theft charges. They’re accused of stealing at least $338,000 in Lululemon merchandise from stores in Washington, Oregon and California.
Four of the suspects have been identified as Janeice Renee Downs, her mother Janeice Wiley, Reality Leavens and Memory Yearby. Downs is considered to be the main suspect in the string of robberies.
Downs and the child were seen on surveillance video at the chain’s 12th Street location in Fairhaven on March 3. They’re accused of taking over $17,000 worth of clothing from that location alone.
During the course of the theft investigation, investigators also found that Wiley used false information to purchase a vehicle from Northwest Chevrolet in Bellingham last August. That vehicle was seen on surveillance footage following some of their alleged thefts.
Wiley and Downs were arrested in a Kent SWAT operation on April 9. The child suspect was at the scene of the SWAT operation but was not arrested at that time. Investigators also recovered three semi-automatic rifles during that operation, noting that the women are convicted felons and cannot own any weapons.
During Downs’ initial arraignment, a detective recognized a child sitting in the gallery as one of the theft suspects and arrested her.
