BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A fish passage project in Fairhaven suffered another fuel leak late last week.

The City of Bellingham says that a second leak from a contractor’s generator was detected in Padden Creek on Thursday.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that crews contained several hundred gallons of fuel from an earlier leak on August 3.

In both instances, fuel was contained before it could reach Bellingham Bay.

Contractors have since replaced the generator causing the leaks and crews are monitoring pumps throughout the construction zone.

The Washington State Department of Ecology adds that at least two fish were killed as a result of the leaks.

A stop work order is currently in effect for the fish passage project area until full containment of the spills are complete.
