OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The governor signed a series of bills passed this legislative session into law over the weekend.

On Saturday, Gov. Bob Ferguson signed 17 bills into law.

This comes as the short 2026 legislative session ended on Thursday, March 12.

Among the new legislation are allowing employers to fix errors in unemployment compensation filings, greater access to abortion medications and increasing opportunities for donations for children.

Several bills tackled education access, making it easier to be eligible for certain programs like Passport to Careers and eliminating postgraduate requirements for state employment.

One bill aligned state coverage for HIV treatment with federal standards.

“SB 6183 aligns state-regulated commercial coverage with Medicaid coverage to ensure more Washingtonians receive access to these important medications,” Gov. Ferguson said at the bill signing. “Specifically, this bill requires all state-regulated health plans issued or renewed after Jan. 1, 2027, to provide coverage for all FDA-approved HIV medications.”

Gov. Ferguson was scheduled to sign two dozen more bills on Monday, March 16 and is set to sign another 11 bills into law the following day.
