BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local animal non-profit organization will host its first annual puppy football tournament at Menace Brewing on Superbowl Sunday.

Happy Tails Happy Homes is a 100% home-foster, no-kill volunteer group based in Bellingham. The non-profit was founded by a teacher and is primarily run by teacher-volunteers who aim to help dogs (and other animals) from all backgrounds get adopted.

“We really try to focus on the dogs that need us the most. We’re all around the community helping anyone and everyone that we can,” said Laura Williams, vice president of Happy Tails Happy Homes.

The event on Feb. 9 will begin at noon, is entirely free and all dogs will be available for adoption. Adoptable dogs will not only consist of puppies but vary in age, with some older dogs refereeing the game.

Happy Tails Happy Homes works with local litters and the Whatcom Humane Society, as well as shelters all over the state that are full in capacity. One of the litters at the Puppy Bowl has traveled to Bellingham all the way from Yakima.

Puppies will do their best to play football on Sunday, dressed in one of two team’s jerseys and attempting to get a ball into a miniature goal. There will also be a half-time show featuring some trick training and treats.

Whether you’re looking to adopt a new pet, preparing for the big Superbowl game or relieving some stress, the Puppy Bowl at Menace Brewing may be the right event for you. Attendees are merely asked to show up ready to watch and have some fun. For adoption information, visit Happy Tails Happy Homes website.
