BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A health advisory for a Bellingham beach has been lifted, but caution is still being urged if you plan to go for a swim.
The Washington State Department of Ecology has lifted a swim advisory for the water at Boulevard Park and Taylor Dock. Recent water samples have shown that levels of fecal bacteria have dropped along the shoreline and dock.
Whatcom County Health and Community Services initially instituted the warning on Aug. 9, 2024, after tests provided evidence of high levels of fecal bacteria. The swimming area is heavily trafficked during the summer months, with people entering the water on the north and south end of Boulevard Park and off of Taylor Dock.
Despite the restrictions being lifted, Whatcom County health officials are still advising swimmers to avoid direct contact with the stormwater outfall near Bennett Avenue.
The Department of Ecology advises anyone swimming in natural bodies of water to shower afterwards as a precaution.
