WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A hiker was rescued after falling down a steep slope in the North Cascades backcountry.

The U.S. Coast Guard said that crewmembers from their Port Angeles Station were called to help find the 33-year-old woman on Saturday, June 20.

She had been hiking with a group on Mount Larrabee when she fell 120 feet down a gully on the south side of the mountain.

Rescue crews had until sunset to find the group due to their remote location. They managed to locate and airlift the seriously injured hiker out of the area with minutes to spare.

She was transported to Bellingham International Airport, where she was placed in the care of emergency medical crews.
