BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An icon of downtown Bellingham’s history could soon be sold in LEGO sets around the world.

The Whatcom Museum announced that the model for the 1892 Old City Hall has been accepted into the LEGO Ideas program. The design – submitted by local LEGO fanatic Brad Bergman – needs 10,000 votes to be considered for production into an actual LEGO set.

“It’s actually been built to kind of sit with the other LEGO modular buildings that they put out,” Bergman said. He adds that the design choice was so it could be integrated into any street scene that collectors could have built with other sets.

Bergman debuted the nearly 3,000-brick model during a live build Friday afternoon at the museum, where it will remain as a permanent exhibit.

Old City Hall housed Bellingham’s police department, Mayor’s Office and Council Chambers before becoming home to the Whatcom Museum in 1941. It was recently honored by the Bellingham Police Department by having its building as the new design displayed on their badges.

Voting for the LEGO Ideas contest closes in May 2025, though Bergman says that deadline could get extended depending on how many votes it gets. You can cast a vote on LEGO’s Ideas website.
