BELLINGHAM, WA (MYBELLINGHAMNOW.COM) – Search crews located a deceased person in the Terminal Building in Fairhaven on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

The owner of the Harris Avenue Cafe is the only person who’s unaccounted for following the fire that destroyed the building on the night of December 16th.

Bellingham Fire Chief Bill Hewett says in a news release that searchers made an initial identification, but the county medical examiner will officially announce the identity of the remains.

Dismantling of the unstable building began last week and investigators were able to enter the building on Saturday.

Hewett says they’ll continue work to identify a cause of the fire and location where it started.

He says that process will likely take some time.

The historic building has been declared a total loss and will eventually be torn down.
