OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Backers hope to get another initiative on the November ballot aimed at hobbling recently passed state law.

The Seattle Times reports they’ve begun gathering signatures for Initiative 2066. It would repeal parts of a bill passed this year that would help Puget Sound Energy (PSE) reduce carbon emissions. Supporters of the initiative said it will keep natural gas available to customers.

But the law it’s aimed at does not ban natural gas or keep PSE from providing it. The utility and lawmakers who passed the bill said it’s simply a plan that adjusts state regulation to help PSE transition away from carbon fuels.

Initiative supporters have less than two months to gather almost 325,000 valid signatures to get the measure on this year’s ballot.
