WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The month of May has turned a bit dreary here in Whatcom County, but there is still plenty to do this weekend. From live music to crafting to a bike party, we have you covered in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

Friday, May 16 is Bike to Work and School Day and you can celebrate at the Bike Party in downtown Bellingham. Head on down to the 1300 block of Commercial Street for tricycle games, bike polo, an interactive art project and more.

There will be bike-related vendors, food stalls, music, a bike valet for easy parking, and a beer garden. The Whatcom Transportation Authority will also be on hand to show riders how to best use bike racks.

The Bike Party runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If you are crafty, check this out. Two Whatcom County businesses are taking part in this year’s Puget Sound Local Yarn Shop Tour. Visit 25 shops over five days from Bellingham to Burien to get free patterns and 10 percent off featured yarn.

Local shops include Apple Yarns (1405 Fraser St.) and Northwest Yarns and Mercantile (1401 Commercial St.) in Bellingham. The Local Yarn Shop Tour started on Wednesday and runs through Sunday, May 18.

Don’t forget about Blaine’s Spring Block Party on Saturday, May 17.

It will be fun for the whole family with a street fair featuring 60 vendors and a kid zone with face painting, a scavenger hunt and more. For the adults, the Spring Block Party will feature a beer garden with live music.

Lovers of music and film don’t want to miss Western Symphony Orchestra Goes to the Movies. Join students and alumni for an evening of music from films like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park and more.

WSO Goes to the Movies is at WWU Performing Art Center concert hall on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Our featured live show this week is at the Shakedown on State Street. Seattle’s Jaws of Brooklyn will bring their soul-infused indie rock vibes to the stage on Friday night, May 16. Fans of Linda Ronstadt, Courtney Barnett and Stevie Wonder don’t want to miss this one.
