WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Memorial Day weekend is finally here, and the weather looks spectacular.

Sunday is the big Ski to Sea relay race from the Mt. Baker Ski Area to Bellingham Bay. There are tons of options this weekend to celebrate the event and to honor the men and women who have given their lives for our country.

If you want to get a jump on the festivities, and perhaps beat the crowds, head down to Fairhaven on Saturday, May 24 for the Stones Throw Brewery Block Party.

The good folks at Stones Throw are hosting a lively, all-ages beer garden with food trucks, live music and more. 10% of the revenue from the block party will benefit Walk and Roll Bellingham, a group that advocates for safer streets, urban vibrancy and community-powered transportation.

The Stones Throw Brewery Block Party runs from noon to 9 p.m. For all the details, go to stonesthrowbrewery.com.

Another fun event on Saturday is at the Whatcom Art Center in Fairhaven. Children’s Art Exhibit “From the Mountains to the Sea” features art created by students from around Whatcom County.

It features work from all grade levels exploring the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest from the peaks of the Cascades to the shores of Bellingham Bay and the Salish Sea. The show was curated specifically for the Ski to Sea race and celebration.

The Whatcom Art Center is located at 1105 11 St. The exhibit will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For all the details, go to whatcomartcenter.org.

The big celebration is on Sunday, May 25, when the masses will flock to Fairhaven to watch the sea kayakers cross the finish line and celebrate at the 2025 Fairhaven Festival.

It’s an all-day event running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Marine Park up to the Village Green and beyond. There will be craft vendors, food, a beer garden and live music.

Parking is usually precarious, so walking, biking or taking public transit is a good idea. The weather looks like it will be spectacular and sunny, so it will be the perfect opportunity to root on the Ski to Sea competitors and celebrate Whatcom County’s premiere sporting event.

Go to enjoyfairhaven.com for all the details.

Of course, Memorial Day is Monday, May 26. You can honor all who have given their lives in service of our country at the Whatcom Memorial Day Parade on Saturday.

The parade runs down Cornwall Ave. from Alabama St. to downtown Bellingham. This year’s Grand Marshall is Terry Crump, a Cobra Gunship pilot who earned seven Flying Crosses during his tour in Vietnam.

The Whatcom Memorial Day Parade runs from noon to 2 p.m. Get down there early to get a spot. All the details can be found at whatcommemorialdayparade.com.
