WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – It’s going to be a beautiful weekend in Whatcom County and there are festivals, bike rides and some great live music for you to enjoy.
The Bellingham Greek Festival runs Thursday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 8. The festival has been a local tradition since 1984 and features great food, dance performances, live music and Greek wine and beer. The highlight could be the docent-led church tours though. The St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church is a sight to behold.
The Bellingham Greek Festival runs from 11 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and then from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Head over to 510 East Sunset Drive in Bellingham and enjoy.
If you’re looking for something fun and free for the whole family to do on Saturday, Sept. 7, check out the Chalk Art Festival in Ferndale. It’s free and supplies will be provided, so just show up between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Griffintown Park and let your creative side shine. The Ferndale Arts Commission recommends that you bring something to kneel on because making art on hard concrete can be a little painful without a little padding.
Go to the Ferndale Arts Commission’s Facebook page for all the details.
After an afternoon in the sun in Ferndale, why not head on over to Lynden? The 2024 Lynden Whiskey Event runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. downtown on Front Street. Participating businesses will host whiskey distilleries from around Whatcom County and the PNW. Buy a Whiskey Walk ticket and you’ll get five tasting tokens. If whiskey isn’t your thing, Overflow Taps will have a massive beer garden.
The Lynden Whiskey event also features vendors, buskers, a cigar-smoking area, and great live music. The money raised at this event goes to support the Lynden Music Festival in October. Go to lyndenwhiskeyevent.com for tickets and all the details.
Gorgeous weather means spectacular views and what better way to take in the glory of Whatcom County than on a bicycle? The Mount Baker Bicycle Club’s Chuckanut Classic is on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It all kicks off down at the Portal Container Village on Bellingham’s waterfront. There are multiple rides for you to take part in; a family-friendly ten-mile ride around Bellingham, 25, 43 and 62-mile rides, plus a full 100-mile ride that will take you from Bellingham to Blaine and south through the Chuckanut Mountains.
To register for the Chuckanut Classic go to chuckanutclassic.org.
