BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If the recent news about the Ski to Sea race has you jazzed to watch racers compete across Whatcom County, you are in luck with some early race action this weekend.

Registration is already closed, but this year’s Jr. Ski to Sea race is on Saturday, May 11 at the Mount Baker Ski Area and Lake Padden Park in Bellingham. The Jr. Ski to Sea Race is a multi-sport relay race for kids 8 to 18 years old. The Ski/Snowboard leg kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Heather Meadows up at Mount Baker. Racers will hike to the top of “7 Hills” then ski or snowboard down to Chair 2. It’s a shorter route than the adult version, but daunting, nonetheless.

Racers will then hop in a car and head back to Bellingham for the rest of the race at Lake Padden. That’s where the Running Leg will kick off at noon. Runners will then hand off to the mountain bike leg, where they will ride the 2.6 miles around Lake Padden. The race wraps up with the Kayakers paddling a mile on the lake. Start times differ slightly depending on the division, but I’m sure all the young racers would love to have you show up to cheer them on.

Here’s something fun Mother’s Day weekend: The Sunnyland Garden Party. Celebrate the dawn of spring at seven different Sunnyland breweries. It’s a pub crawl, so if your mom enjoys knocking back a cold one, this is the event for you. Get a stamp on your punch card at every stop and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win prizes.

Enjoy all the drinks, music, food and good times all weekend long in one of Bellingham’s quirkiest neighborhoods. There’s outdoor seating at these spots, so you can soak up some rays and enjoy the gorgeous weather while you’re at it. What’s better than sitting outside with a beer at Otherlands, El Sueñito, Twin Sisters or any of the other spots in Sunnyland. The answer, of course, is not much.

Go to the Sunnyland Garden Party’s Facebook page for all the details or just pop on over to any of the brewery’s websites.
