WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – We are expecting lovely fall weather this weekend in Whatcom Couty and there are plenty of options to enjoy it.
Oktoberfest starts on Saturday, Sept. 21, so it’s time to celebrate the two-week long German festival. A great place to start is the 5th Annual Sunnyland Fest in Bellingham.
Running through Sunday, Sept. 22, Sunnyland Fest is a pub crawl event celebrating fest biers at Wander Brewing, El Sueñito, Twin Sisters Brewing, Stemma Brewing, Otherlands Beer, and Kulshan Brewing. Grab a punch card and collect stamps at each location for a chance to win swag and gift cards.
That’s really all you need to know for that event. Go to otherlandsbeer.com for all the details.
If German-style beers are not your thing, how does some Irish culture and music sound? The Bellingham Celtic Festival runs through Sunday and features workshops and concerts at various location in downtown Bellingham.
There will be performances from San Miguel Fraser, The Moving Hats, Gallowglass, and a whole lot more. Plus, Honey Moon Mead and Cider will host a pub singalong with Biddy on the Bench.
For all the details and to purchase tickets, go to bellinghamcelticfestival.com.
If you’re a fan of vegan food, the Bellingham Veg Fest is Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Barkley Village Green in Bellingham. It’s a free, family-friendly celebration of all things vegan. The Veg Fest will feature food, art, crafts and live music and everything on sale will be 100 percent vegan.
Once you’ve gotten your fix of vegetables, why not head up the Guide to do some apple picking? Bellewood Farms in Lynden currently has Honey Crisp, Tsugaru and more varieties available for u-pick Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you’d rather not pick them yourself, you can aways buy some freshly picked apples at their farm store.
Our featured live show this week is a real doozy. Playboy Manbaby from Pheonix, AZ will grace the stage on Saturday at the Shakedown in Bellingham. Their insane mix of punk, rock and bizarre humor will entertain even the most subdued Bellinghamsters.
Opening for Playboy Manbaby will be Steaksauce Mustache from Austin, TX with their brand of chaotic “partycore”. With a name like that, how can you resist? Bellingham’s own The Hobby is also featured on the bill. Fans of fun, heavy music shouldn’t miss this one. For tickets, go to shakedownbellingham.com.
Have fun, stay safe and enjoy the weekend!
