BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s newest homeless shelter is almost ready to open its doors.

Lighthouse Mission Ministries President and CEO Hans Erchinger-Davis says construction of their new facility on 1312 F St. is nearly complete.

The five-story building will replace the Lighthouse Mission’s current Base Camp on Cornwall Avenue. It’s expected to start accepting guests in early October.

“We are so grateful for this community’s love and generosity,” Erchinger-Davis said. “The new facility will help many people change their lives with mental health services, addiction support and safe housing.”

Among the new features are micro-shelters for families and other visitors who are in need of extra support. The micro shelters will increase the shelter’s overnight capacity from 200 to 300 beds.

The new facility will also add 100 more beds during severe weather events.

Lighthouse Mission is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, with tours going every 15 minutes.

The tours will briefly pause at noon for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening.
