BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – One of Skagit County’s Commissioners has announced her retirement.
District 3 Commissioner Lisa Janicki said in a statement that she will be leaving her position at the end of this year.
Janicki, whose district includes Burlington, Sedro-Woolley and areas east along the North Cascades Highway, was elected to the Board of Commissioners in late 2014. She was a driving force in the creation of North Star, an organization that aims to end homelessness in Skagit County.
Janicki also helped bring the vision of permanent supportive housing to life with the opening of Martha’s Place in 2023.
She oversaw the development of the STAR Center, which is an inpatient mental health care clinic.
Her fellow Commissioners credit her determination and creativity in achieving solutions within Skagit County.
Skagit County Democrats will name three replacements that will be considered by the remaining two Commissioners, who will make a final choice by the end of this year.
