BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – With New Year’s Eve right around the corner, local agencies are reminding the public about the legalities of fireworks in Whatcom County.

Fireworks can be set off in unincorporated parts of Whatcom County on Tuesday, Dec. 31 between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. Whatcom County law requires all fireworks to be purchased from legal vendors in order to be set off.

The City of Bellingham has prohibited all fireworks usage within city limits with the exception of permitted public displays.

Firecrackers, bottle rockets, sky rockets and sky missiles are illegal to light up under state law. However, those restrictions do not apply to tribal lands.

Those planning on setting off fireworks are asked to keep a reliable water source nearby and to set off sparks responsibly.

Fires started by fireworks usage can result in reckless burning charges.
