LUMMI NATION, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lummi Nation police officer who was shot in the line of duty last summer has returned to work.

The department announced on social media on Wednesday, May 6, that Officer Coquillette is back in uniform and once again serving the community.

Court documents state he was shot seven times when he stopped to investigate a car that had driven into a ditch on N. Red River Road in July 2025.

An ensuing fundraiser brought in more than $20,000 for the officer and his family. The department thanked everyone in the community who offered their support following the incident.

The suspected shooter, 24-year-old Jesus Penuelas-Agramon, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder in Whatcom County Superior Court.

His jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 15.
