LUMMI NATION, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lummi Nation just got some major support to move forward with its latest affordable housing development.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced on Thursday, Sept. 3, that it’s awarding $150 million in grant funding to 31 tribal communities across the country.

The Lummi Nation Housing Authority received the largest grant of $7.5 million to help build 20 homes for low-income tribal families.

According to the housing authority, the homes will be included in Phase 2 of the Olson Property development on the southern end of the reservation off Lummi View Drive.

Phase 2 includes a total of 15 lots that average 11,000 square feet in size with the potential to house up to 30 units.

The new units will be a mixture of duplexes and single-family residences with options for both rental and homeownership.
