WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lummi Nation Police have issued an encouraging update on the officer who was shot several times in the line of duty last week.

The department said on social media that the still-unnamed officer is currently recovering well and making “great progress” on his road to recovery. It adds that the officer and his family are incredibly grateful to the community for its outpouring of support.

A fundraising dinner at Syros Greek & Italian Restaurant in Lynden raised over $20,000 for the officer and his family on Monday, with over 600 meals served.

The Lummi Nation has also set up a community donation fund to further support the officer and his family.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that 23-year-old Jesus Penuelas-Agramon is charged with attempted murder in connection to the shooting that took place on the early morning of July 28.

His arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8 in Whatcom County Superior Court.
