BELLINGHAM, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) Macy’s workers at Bellis Fair Mall are among those celebrating a new union contract.

A news release from United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) 3000 say that their members who work for Macy’s have secured the largest ratification bonus in the U.S. with their new contract. The contract features better wages and improved conditions, including a provision that protects members from retaliation if they have to call emergency services.

It comes on the heels of two major strikes by Macy’s workers in Washington. Bellingham workers were among 400 across the state who walked off the job over Black Friday weekend in November. Workers at the company’s Lynnwood location followed that with a nine-day strike earlier this month.

UFCW 3000 President Faye Guenther and Secretary-Treasurer Joe Mizrahi commented on the ratified contract in this video release. Guenther says the new contract has increased wage protections and safety protocols.
