BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two grocery giants have announced they will sell hundreds of their stores, including several locations in Whatcom County, if a proposed mega-merger is approved.

Kroger and Albertsons released a list of 124 stores in Washington state that they plan to sell to New Hampshire-based supplier C&S Wholesale Grocers.

KIRO reports that the list includes all five Haggen locations in Bellingham and Ferndale, as well as the Safeway on Sunset Drive.

All three companies say that none of the named locations will close, and no jobs will be cut as a result of the sale.

The deal with C&S is worth an estimated $2.9 billion.

Meanwhile, the FTC, Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson and others have taken legal action in an effort to prevent the $24.6 billion merger between Albertsons and Kroger from moving forward.

That trial is expected to begin next month.
