BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is in custody after leading police on a chase through downtown Bellingham following a hit and run.
Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says someone reportedly hit a parked car around 6:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
Witnesses gave police a description of the suspect and told them he had gone to the parking garage, where officers found him just as he was getting off the elevator.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man, ran away before officers found him again, this time laying on his back while on the phone with someone who is believed to have a no-contact order against him. The man was taken into custody for the hit and run, driving under the influence and violating the no-contact order in addition to several outstanding warrants against him, including another DUI.
He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $76,000 bail.
