BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man was arrested after police say he threatened to kill an officer and several members of the public during a standoff in Blaine over the weekend.
Blaine Police say officers were called to a report of a man disrupting traffic on Peace Portal Drive at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Witnesses told police that the man had threatened to kill several residents on the street, even going so far as to chase one of them.
When police arrived, they noticed that the 42-year-old man appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The man ran into a room in the nearby Bayside Motor Inn before Blaine Police called U.S. Border Patrol and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office for backup.
He refused requests to cooperate even though law enforcement told him he was under arrest and threatened to kill a specific Blaine Police officer who was on scene.
Finally, Bellingham Police arrived with their armored vehicle and the man was arrested when he left his room.
He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $25,000 bail.
