BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man was arrested north of Bellingham after a drive-by shooting on Tuesday night.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater says that deputies were called to the intersection of Northwest Avenue and W. Axton Road at around 10:15 p.m.

Deputies were responding to a 911 call reporting a driver firing a gun out their vehicle window. They received a description of the suspect and their vehicle and located the car on Wiser Lake Road shortly afterwards.

A passenger in the car confirmed that the driver, identified as a 47-year-old, had fired a handgun during a road rage incident.

According to passengers in the other vehicle, the suspect had pointed a pistol at the other car after passing them on the shoulder of the road. The suspect had then pointed and fired the weapon toward Woodlawn Cemetery.

Deputies recovered the pistol and ammunition from the suspect’s car and arrested the driver for drive-by shooting and unlawful handling of a weapon.
