BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man accused of domestic violence is in custody after allegedly attempting to set fire to his victim’s apartment in north Bellingham.
Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says the victim called 9-1-1 just after midnight on Saturday, June 8, to report an assault. The victim told officers the suspect intimidated her and tried to lock her in an apartment before she was able to escape with her child.
Officers later arrived at the apartment where the incident took place and found fire alarms going off. Flames were coming from the stove, where items had been stacked up with the burners on.
An officer at the apartment recognized the suspect, a 22-year-old man, and arrested him for first degree arson among other charges related to domestic violence.
He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $75,000 bail.
