LEAVENWORTH, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Several areas within the North Cascades National Park are back open as the manhunt for the father suspected of killing his three young daughters intensifies.
Park officials say the roads, areas and trails around Stehekin have reopened as of Sunday.
Overnight stays on previously closed trails, including backcountry camps and cross-country zones, remain closed through Thursday due to the ongoing search for Travis Decker.
Decker is believed to have killed his 5, 8 and 9-year-old daughters after their bodies were found at a campground near Leavenworth last Monday.
In an update on Monday morning, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office says it recovered a large amount of evidence from Decker’s truck at the scene.
Blood samples taken from the scene have been identified as that of a male and another that was not human blood. Decker’s dog was also found alive at the scene and taken to a human society for care.
Gov. Bob Ferguson announced on Friday that he was ordering the state’s National Guard to help with the search.
There’s still been no sign of Decker, who received extensive survival training during his time in the military.
Authorities are asking anyone visiting the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest or recreation areas around Chelan County to be alert and call 9-1-1 if they see Decker.
