MAPLE FALLS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Maple Falls man was sentenced on Wednesday, March 27 in U.S. District Court for his role in a drug trafficking ring in Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
38-year-old Jesse Witteveen was arrested in November of 2022 following an investigation by the DEA and Whatcom Drug and Gang Task Force.
Law enforcement surveilled Witteveen as he met with a drug supplier in Skagit County and deputies later tried to pull him over on Highway 9.
He sped off onto the Mount Baker Highway while officers pursued.
A bag containing fentanyl and methamphetamine was thrown from the car before officers were able to perform a pit maneuver to end the chase.
A search of his home found fentanyl pills, meth, multiple cell phones, firearms parts and ammunition.
Law enforcement seized over 30 kilograms of fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and crystal meth over the course of their investigation of the drug ring.
Witteveen will spend the next six years in prison, followed by four years of supervised release.
The judge also recommended he be admitted to the Bureau of Prisons drug treatment program.
