BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An opportunity to connect with stories of female empowerment is coming to Bellingham this weekend.

Miss Behaved is a comedic theatrical performance based on the true-life experiences of wild women.

Somatic therapist Nichole Proffitt and director Ericka Mac have come together to tell stories about misbehaving—not in a traditional sense—but with the idea that women are choosing to do things differently than society has told them they are allowed to.

The duo sent out a call for submissions locally, inviting women to tell their stories and share trials or tribulations they have faced. The venture has developed into a story revolving around a single character named “Miss Behaved.” Throughout the piece, she symbolizes an inner voice of empowerment within each individual.

“A lot of the stories that we see told through film, art and media often tell particular stories don’t encompass the lived experience of so many other women,” Proffitt said. “I just felt that this was a really beautiful opportunity to tell the stories that often don’t get told.”

She clarifies that the stories being told are not subject to opinion, as they are the actual stories of the women who have lived them. Proffitt sees art as a way to see the world through a lens different than our own—and hopes that doing so facilitates a more compassionate community in world.

The two-and-a-half-hour-long show will take place at Wink Wink’s Side Piece Studio in downtown Bellingham. The venue was chosen with the intention of fostering intimacy in a smaller space, while also supporting a woman owned business.

“I think that [in this show] there’s a profound potential to connect more deeply with our own humanity,” Proffitt said. “My hope is that these stories are not just going to be the stories of us on stage, but the stories of so many women.”

Miss Behaved is described as a performance that “will make you laugh, make you cry and hopefully inspire anyone who wants to live a life more of their own choosing.”

The show will take place at Wink Wink on Jan. 24 to 26 at 7 p.m. This is their first debut and there may be opportunities to see it again in the coming future.
