Mariners News

The Mariners are opening their final series before the All-Star break tonight.

They’re currently playing the Tampa Bay Rays in the first of a three-game weekend series.

The M’s are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Marlins that ended with an 8-4 loss in Miami last night. That moved them behind the Rangers for first place in the American League West and dropped their record to an even .500.

The Mariners have struggled on the road lately, having lost their last five away from Seattle and 11 of their last 14.

They’re now in Tampa Bay to take on a Rays team that owns the best record in the AL. First pitch is at 4:10 on KPUG with Luis Castillo on the mound.

Meanwhile, the Mariners are also gearing up for the MLB draft this weekend.

The team has four selections during Rounds 1 through 4 tomorrow, including the 24th overall pick. Rounds 5 through 20 take place Sunday.

Bells News

The Bells are back in league play tonight.

They’re hosting the Port Angeles Lefties in the start of a three-game weekend series.

Bellingham beat Baum Bat Northwest 5-2 yesterday to cap off their stretch of non-league games with a perfect 3-0 record. They’ll now delve back into West Coast League play, where they’ve lost seven of their last nine.

The Bells have a great chance to regain momentum against a Lefties team that owns the worst record in the league. First pitch for their series opener is at 6:35 at Joe Martin Field.

Tonight’s game features a post-game concert, while tomorrow’s includes post-game fireworks.

World Cup News

We’ve got a blockbuster on our hands in the World Cup semifinals.

Spain edged Belgium 2-1 in the quarterfinals earlier today to set up a meeting with France to decide who advances to the championship. Mikel Merino scored the game-winner in the 88th minute as Spain stayed undefeated in the tournament.

Their match against France takes place next Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.

The World Cup quarterfinals wrap up tomorrow, when Norway plays England in Miami at 2 pm and Argentina faces off against Switzerland in Kansas City at 6.

Storm News

The Storm came up just short on the road last night.

They fell to the Atlanta Dream 89-78. Allisha Gray scored 22 points and Angel Reese had 18 points and 11 rebounds for her league-best 15th double-double of the season as the Dream snapped their five-game skid.

Natisha Hiedeman led the Storm with 20 points.

Seattle remains at the bottom of the Western Conference standings amid its roughest season in recent memory. They’ll look to rebound on Sunday when they continue their road trip against the Washington Mystics.
