POINT ROBERTS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A fence that seemingly appeared overnight near the border in Point Roberts has disappeared just as quickly.

The Northern Light reports that residents noticed the chain link fence near the intersection of Marine Drive and Roosevelt Way on Jan. 16. It cut off access for Tsawwassen, B.C. residents near Monument Park.

Officials with the adjoining city of Delta said that the fence was installed following a 2023 investigation into a man who accidentally wandered over the border. The elderly man was later found dead in Point Roberts.

A B.C. Councilmember told The Delta Optimist that the city of Delta was later contacted by the International Boundary Commission to remove the fence. It was dismantled on Jan. 30th.
