WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The start of flood season is making its way to Whatcom County this week.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle says two atmospheric rivers moving into western Washington could bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the area this week. Potential thunderstorms are also forecasted for Whatcom County on Wednesday night.
NWS is forecasting “significant rises” on area rivers that it says will prime the region for flooding as we move deeper into fall. Still, Whatcom County residents will not have to worry about any risk of flooding yet.
Flood levels forecast for the Nooksack River over the next week are still well below the “action” stage.
