BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Newly installed bike lanes are now open for use on Holly St. in downtown Bellingham.

The pilot program, introduced by the City of Bellingham, has reduced traffic to one lane through the corridor of Holly St. and to one lane from Commercial St. to Bay St.

The project will test out two different types of bike lanes: a buffered lane with a striped zone separating cyclists from traffic and a protected bike lane with a physical barrier between parked cars and cyclists.

The bike lanes will not interfere with on-street parking availability.

The city plans to collect data throughout the summer pilot period to evaluate the bike lanes’ effectiveness. Community members are able to offer feedback through a survey on the city’s website.
