OLYMPIA, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A proposed bill in Olympia would cap yearly rent increases at five percent in Washington state.

House Bill 2114 was voted out of the House Housing Committee last Tuesday, January 16th and there was a public hearing yesterday.

The bill would also instruct the Department of Commerce to create an “online landlord resource center” to provide information about low-income programs and local and state resources.

In addition, it would require three months’ notice of rent and fee increases and limit fees and deposits.

The bill would not limit rent prices that landlords can set for new tenants though.

A companion bill in the Senate is scheduled for discussion on Friday, January 26th.
