BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A proposed project along the Bellingham coastline is causing concern for nearby residents.
The City of Bellingham says that they received a residential development application from the owners of an undeveloped property near Mud Bay earlier this year.
If approved, the proposed Woods at Viewcrest property would consist of 38 single-family homes and three open space areas.
A public comment period for the development opened between March and April of this year. Dozens of the comments came from members of “Protect Mud Bay Cliffs,” some of whom argued the need for an independent environmental review of the property before any construction is approved.
Others noted that while demand for affordable housing remains high in Bellingham, the Woods at Viewcrest intend to serve high-income residents.
A full project description on the city’s website notes that the property will include public trail access to the nearby Chuckanut Estuary and the Mud Bay Cliffs.
The same description acknowledges the environmental impact of the project will be handled to meet city code.
