BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – New waste disposal rules are coming for some Bellingham homeowners.

The Bellingham Public Works Department says that organic waste collection bins will be given to single-family homes starting early next year.

The bins can hold up to 60 gallons of food and other organic waste and will be picked up every other week.

Currently, about 40% of eligible households have already signed up for the new bins. The organic waste services will cost a fee each month, but there are options to reduce those costs.

The Sanitary Service Company will roll out the new services one neighborhood at a time and will notify customers before they receive their bins.

The Bellingham City Council implemented the new rules for organic waste in February 2023.
