OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A number of new state laws went into effect on Sunday, including one that will make it more expensive to tie the knot in Washington state.
House Bill 1498 increased the cost of a marriage license by $100 to help fund a new program for domestic violence response services.
Most liquor licenses and permits are getting pricier, too, along with recreational hunting and fishing license fee hikes and an added cigarette tax.
Meanwhile, people who break into a car to rescue pets, children or vulnerable adults from overheating will now be protected against being sued by the car’s owner.
Any Good Samaritan must believe there is “imminent danger” and call 911 or law enforcement before breaking in.
And the cost of littering has increased from $50 to $125, with an added fine for doing it on state highways.
