BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Hate seeing your insurance premiums going up for seemingly no good reason?

A new rule taking effect this weekend won’t get rid of those hikes, but you’ll be more informed about why your costs are rising.

The Washington Office of Insurance Commission announced that starting Saturday, June 1, insurance companies will be required to tell their customers why their premiums are increasing.

By 2027, those explanations must be clearly detailed and included automatically when a person’s policy renews with a rate increase of 10% or more. The new rule applies to auto and homeowner insurance.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Kriedler said that Washington residents have the right to know why they’re being charged more for the same coverage.
